In this article, I will give you my 5 tips for finding a job in the digital marketing space. Think of it as Linkedin marketing for finding a job (your next opportunity). These tips are relevant for all job seekers, but examples will be from the digital marketing space (because this is where I can give input from my own experiences). The tips I’m about to list are great if you are looking for a job and sharing your Linkedin profile with recruiting professionals, but are also great if you are a freelancer trying to give a good impression to your new prospects.
The List:
Let’s dive deeper and explore each one of the 5 tips for getting a job in the digital marketing space with LinkedIn. Try opening your personal profile and check if you are already implementing these tips, if not, optimize your profile after reading each tip. Good luck!
1. Profile photo
You must have a profile photo – add an up to date, high resolution, and representational photo – it will help recruiters recognize you. This is your logo and we need to get some brand recognition, this is Linkedin marketing but you are the brand (Looking for your next opportunity/job).
2. Companies you worked with
Add all relevant companies you worked with. Each company must have a description that incorporates keywords related to your job activity.
use bullet points to highlight your function in the company and to make it easier for recruiters to scan your profile.
3. Your summary
Write a summary about your self – this is an important display of your writing ability. This is your opening paragraph, this is your pitch – here you need to hook your reader (HR or potential clients) and take an interest in YOU.
4. Your Skills
Add all the skills you have that are relevant to a digital marketing position. If you’ve participated in a professional course in the past take the course Syllabus and add skills base on what you learned (example: if you participated in a digital marketing course, and learned Google ads, Facebook ads, building a landing page, HTML, CSS, Google analytics, contact writing and more – each one is a skill you can add).
Pro Tip: go to the Linkedin job tab find a job you are aiming for, look at the skills required for the job and add any skill you didn’t have on your profile (be honest).
5. Grow your network!
Add people to your professional network from your field and recruiting professionals from companies you wish to work with. Set a goal number – if you have less than 500 (0-500), your goal is 501! if you have more then 500 your goal is 1001!
